PROGRESSIVE RELAXATION THERAPY Our brain performs in specific frequency ranges during different phases of our wakefulness and deep sleep.  These can be measured by electroencephalogram (EEG).  These are known as neural oscillation, or brain waves.  We have basically four types of brain waves.  When we are awake and fully alert, our brain functions in the Beta frequency range (13 Hz - 30 Hz).  When we are in Relaxed Wakefulness, our brain waves are Alpha frequency range ( 8 Hz - 13 Hz ).  When we are in deep sleep, our brain wave are in the Theta frequency range ( 4 Hz - 8 Hz ).  When we are unconscious, our brain functions in Delta frequency range (1 Hz - 4 Hz).
